So we go to the finals ... Just a week after Reistadløpet in Norway, the whole SkiClassics ensemble, including Team PIONEER Investments moved to Levi in Finland, where on Saturday the last race of the season is on the program. 13th and also final event of the SkiClassics season is here after nearly five months. "And we want to finish the season in the successful way like we managed the whole year," is the wish of Lukas Bauer – team director.
The previous race in Norway showed great strength of the team - all six members in fact got into the eliteTOP 30 between men and women. A proven set - with one exception - will also participate in 67km long race Ylläs-Levi in Finland. "Only Martin Jaks left and instead him will race Jan Srail. Due to his physique - it's Hulk ;-) – he skipped hilly Reistadløpet and now he´s back. So hopefully now he will show that the rest was good and flatter race will fit him well. And the basic goal is to have all athletes on the points, "says Bauer.
Leaders are obviously Ilya Chernousov in which Bauer wants to place in the Top 10. Among women, the traditional trump card Barbara Jezersek. "Perhaps she will confirm her excellent seventh place from Reistadløpet. The track can fit well also for Alexis Jeannerod," says Bauer.
For myself and Adam Fellner is a bit more cautious, especially profile track is not as demanding as last week in Norway, where Bauer finished fourth. Yet it will not be an easy "slipping". "In the first half there are three major hills, in the second part is dominated by the lake, but before the finish is pretty big and nasty hill. Although the altitude of 600 meters, which is for us almost plain, and here the hills stand out. Otherwise, the race is traditionally difficult with regard to the service team for feeding and reserve poles support. You can reach only three places by car, otherwise we're going wilderness, "says Bauer.
